Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Taskessa. They are written to be readable, and they are honest about one thing in particular: because your content is encrypted on your device, we cannot recover it for you if you lose your keys.

Terms of Service

Zero-knowledge: read this before you rely on us

Your content is end-to-end encrypted on your device. We store only ciphertext and cannot read it, and we cannot decrypt it for you. Your encryption key is derived from your password and is never escrowed with us. If you lose both your password and your recovery key, your data is permanently lost, with no recourse. We cannot restore it, reset it, or work around it. Keep your recovery key somewhere safe.

1. Acceptance and eligibility

By creating an account or using Taskessa, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

You must be at least the age of digital consent in your country (16 in much of the EU, 13 or the local equivalent elsewhere) and legally able to enter into this agreement. If you use Taskessa on behalf of an organization, you confirm you are authorized to bind it.

2. What Taskessa is

Taskessa is a personal life assistant for tasks, habits, and calendar planning. It includes sharing (projects, single tasks, and calendar items) and first-class organizations for shared work.

Any AI assistance is bring-your-own: you connect a model you choose through a local MCP connector that runs on your device. We do not operate a server-side AI that reads your content.

3. Zero-knowledge encryption and the loss of data

Your content (task titles, notes, project and label names, calendar and habit names, attachment names and files) is end-to-end encrypted on your device before it reaches our servers. We store ciphertext and plaintext metadata (dates, priority, status, identifiers, timestamps) only. We cannot read your content.

This protection has a hard limit you must understand and accept: there is no server-side copy of your key and no operator backdoor. If you lose both your password and your recovery key, your encrypted data is permanently and irreversibly lost. We cannot recover it, and we are not liable for content that becomes inaccessible because you lost your keys.

Our zero-knowledge guarantee holds for data at rest. Our assurance for it is internal code review (including AI-assisted review), not yet a third-party cryptographic audit, and sharing has not been independently audited. Please weigh this honestly.

4. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your credentials and your recovery key confidential and safe, and for all activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

You are responsible for backing up your recovery key. Because of zero-knowledge encryption, it is the only way to regain access if you forget your password.

5. Billing

Paid plans are billed through our payment processor (Stripe). Subscriptions renew automatically for the period you chose until you cancel. Prices may change; we will give notice before a change takes effect for your renewal.

  • Cancellation: you can cancel at any time. Access continues until the end of the paid period, and it does not renew after that.
  • Refunds: fees already paid are non-refundable except where required by law.
  • Taxes: prices may be shown before tax; applicable taxes are added at checkout.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use Taskessa for anything illegal or to harm others;
  • abuse quotas, sharing, or infrastructure (for example, automated scraping, overload, or circumventing limits);
  • attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours, or break the security of the service;
  • resell or redistribute the service in ways these terms do not allow.

7. Your content and intellectual property

You own your content. We do not.

You grant us only the limited license we need to run the service: to store, transmit, and back up the ciphertext and metadata that make Taskessa work, and to display your content back to you and to the people you explicitly share it with. We cannot read your content, so this license is strictly operational. It ends when you delete the content or your account, subject to routine backup rotation.

The Taskessa software, brand, and design remain ours.

8. Warranties and limitation of liability

Taskessa is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will never be lost.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for loss of data caused by the loss of your keys (see section 3). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

9. Termination

You can end this agreement at any time by deleting your account, which deletes your data (subject to routine backup rotation).

We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these terms, in particular the acceptable-use rules, or where we are required to by law. Where practical and lawful, we will give notice.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For material changes we will give reasonable notice (for example, in the app or by email) before they take effect. Continuing to use Taskessa after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the service and you may delete your account.

11. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The courts of the judicial district of the operator's seat in Quebec have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
